Impressive Performance in a Tiny Package
I've had this product for almost 3 weeks and I am very impressed.
Things I like about it:
It is about one third the weight of my laptop and is perfect for trips, especially by air.
Very easy to carry if you get a netbook bag with a shoulder strap - something like the Targus Messenger TSM097CA. Make sure the unit will fit before you buy a bag - take the measurements and a ruler with you.
It runs all my applications just fine. OK, the screen is smaller than a laptop but more than adequate for surfing, email and watching video. The non-glare screen is preferable to the shiny, reflective screens on other units.
While I wouldn't use it as my main platform for photo editing, it will be just fine for cropping and resizing vacation photos to be emailed to the family back home. The 250GB hard drive will be perfect for backing up photos while on the road.
The built in web cam gives great video for Skype, which came pre-loaded on my unit.
The wireless connectivity is a great feature. I have a wireless modem-router at home and can now surf from anywhere in my house, except the shower. ;)
The battery life is very good. It is at least 8 hours and after the battery goes through a few more cycles it could make it up to 11 hours. The power brick is small and light. Recharge time is about 4 hours to go from 10% to 100% charge. Be sure that the power connector "clicks" when inserted.
The keyboard is big enough that I'm not hitting two keys at once and there is good tactile feedback.
The matte finish is great. It looks classy and doesn't show scratches or finger prints.
Things I'm not thrilled with:
Sorry but I never got the hang of touch pads, especially for drag and drop operations. I've added a small wireless mouse.
The audio level controls require holding down the function key and pressing one of three number keys, which I find awkward.
The audio is what you would expect - no deep resonating bass here but then you have an MP3 player for audio anyway, right?
One piece of software I use frequently will not install correctly without a CD drive, so there is a thin DVD writer in my future.
In summary, this is a small, light and very portable computer that is perfect for travelling or for a second computer in the family room. Performance is more than adequate for most applications, including video. Lots of RAM and hard drive space. Nice screen and keyboard. If you need a very portable computer or are just tired of lugging a standard laptop through airports, this is a good choice. I give it an overall 4.7 out of 5.

Highly recommend this purchase. Almost perfect!
The 1001p blows away most other 10" netbooks regardless of cost. Had this machine for a few days now and highly recommend this purchase.
Things to consider that make the 1001p stand out from many other netbooks:
1. Awesome Matte Screen. NO glare! (unlike most other netbooks).
2. Great keyboard, super fast and comfortable to type on, (and it's a NORMAL, standard English keyboard NOT the almost unusable bilingual keyboard usually forced on Canadians).
3. Excellent touchpad... (no need for a mouse with this netbook).
4. Slim, clean design (even with the 6 cell battery installed).
5. Nice matte (black) finish on most of the 1001p surfaces, (doesn't show finger prints like many other netbooks).
6. Really small and light power brick.
Notes:
I'm used to winxp, but the win7 is not bad, runs ok with 1gb ram, not a ton of bloatware installed, 720p hd video runs fine, quiet, cool, etc, etc.
Amazon supersaver shipping was quick.
I also have 2 well designed highly rated netbooks at home, (Samsung NC10 and LG x110) to compare against and other than the lack of dedicated pageup and pagedown keys (like the NC10) I'd say the 1001p keyboard is perfect.

I originally purchased (and returned) a new hp mini 210. Unfortunately hp's new netbook has some major design flaws, for example a poor choice of touchpad (no dedicated buttons), and a non standard location for that touchpad, which among other problems, often results in the cursor jumping all over the screen while typing. Almost illegible font to mark the function keys on the hp and the hp 6 cell battery also protrudes much farther than the 1001p.


Note: As of early March Asus has a revised bios available that increases screen brightness. Simple to do with ASUSupdate feature in the program menu.

Simply The Best
Ok, here I go with the first review of a computer. I have had many netbooks (really) and have done a ton of research before I purchased this one. I have to say that by far this is the best netbook on the market! I take the bus every day to my IT job and I love and the anti glare screen is fantastic! I don't know wy all netbooks don't have antil glare since the main purpose of having one is for travel. So what's great beside the amazing screen? The battery life is absolutely terrific, the best on the marked by far! I had the Sony (can't remember the model but it too had an anti glare screen) I had to take it back because the thing got very hot! They even have a sticker on the bottom warning that it gets hot and not to place on the skin. Anyway, the keyboard is very nice although it could be a bit quieter. Since Asus is the bet at making motherboards it no surprise that it can control power consumption well and have little things no one else seems to have. Whey you plug it our out your headphones it know and tells you what you did. The batter meter is quite accurate and bases itself on your current type of usage. for example, if your currently only typing up a document the batter indicater may show that you have 6 hours left but if you start watching a video, it will show that you have 3. Oh, And I love the design too. Especailly that the battery does not stick out. So, once again, if your looking for a netbook this is BY FAR the best on the market. If some folks think that it's priced a lttle hi, it's not. Actually, considering the quality, is a deal!

Wait! I almost forgot! This has a NON BILINGUAL KEYBOARD this is crazy critical for you touch typists out there. The blingual keyboards should be absolutely band...it just a way for companies to cut costs.
